This is a genuine VW part. It is super nice quality, and exactly the same as what came on all 86-91 Syncro Vanagons from the factory. As you can probably see, it is shaped very differently than the 2WD tail pipe. About four inches away from the muffler, the tail pipe bends up and toward the front of the vehicle, makes a 180 degree turn, comes back down and toward the rear of the vehicle, and finally curves rearward and ends. This shape helps keep water out of the engine during water crossings. It is made from chrome-plated, thick wall 2" tubing (the standard 2WD tail pipe is made from 1-3/4" tubing). This tail pipe will also fit 2WD Vanagons, for you off-road going 2WDers.
