Description:

Peter and Malea wanted a Multivan Syncro. Only one problem: VW never offered the MV in 4WD. Simple solution: We build them one! No big whoop—this one makes it 14 vehicles that have undergone GoWesty Syncro-nization! (Otherwise known as "taking a vehicle and converting it to 4WD.")

So, they put down a $5000 dream deposit, and I went shopping...

We picked up this very nice, rust-free, crash-free example of a 1990 Vanagon Multivan (MV) for $11,350, delivered.

And, here is what we did:

• Completely disassembled inside, outside, and under
• Completely repainted to factory white with white texture coating around the bottom
• Fuel filler moved to the rear for the coming Syncro fuel tank
• Super nice detail inside and out
• Everything that is supposed to be there is there
• Everything that is there WORKS
• New windshield and seal
• Shifting system rebuilt
• Super duper ultra thorough GoWesty major service
• Cooling system completely overhauled and converted to Syncro
• Reliability enhancing items replaced to the tune of $2506.01
• 2nd battery system with inverter and automatic charger
• 50 watt solar panel mounted quick-release on roof
• Engel refrigerator mounted quick release behind passenger seat
• GoWesty plate steel bumpers front and rear
• Super major service
 - All maintenance items back to zero miles
 - All new cooling system from front to back and back
- Complete fuel delivery system overhaul
• Undercarriage stripped clean
• All fresh Syncro suspension and running gear installed
• Fresh front and rear differentials with 5.83:1 ratios
• Custom geared transaxle with much wider gear selection
• Triple knobs:
 - Front AND rear lockers AND posi-traction differentials
 - Drive shaft decoupler
• 16" wheels with BFG tires
• Fresh GoWesty 2.5 liter engine
• Rear double swing carrier with full size spare and folding shelf
• AC system gone through (but don't get TOO excited... it's still a Vanagon)
• Nice stereo upgrade with iPod interface and hands-free cell phone
• Propex propane furnace
• Fiamma F45 ten-foot awning
• Rubber mats throughout
• Super comfy mattress

And, and—OK, I'm tired already!

What a SWEEEEEEEET ride!

Way to go, Pete and Malea!
