Description:

This vehicle  is here on consignment. This is a super low mileage and super well equipped Syncro Westy. Every factory option available, and it all WORKS. Paint and interior are in super duper condition, all original and almost flawless. Absolutely no rust or collision damage AT ALL. Comes with a nice set of service records dating back to 1992. Cylinder heads are starting to leak, and it could use a new clutch and a full service too. Price listed INCLUDES all of this, but we have not done the work yet. Instead, you can apply the $1000 or so it will cost to replace the head gaskets towards a fresh 2212cc, 2368cc, or 2399cc engine with fresh clutch. We don't want to do the stuff it needs because if the buyer ends up wanting, for example, a bigger engine and decoupler, we will end up having to re-do a bunch of work. By waiting we can offer those upgrades at a considerable savings.

That was back in February of 2004. Tim was back in November of 2006 for the following upgrades:
Rebuilt transaxle due to sudden death (click here)
16" wheel package and tire package, about 12.5% taller
5.43:1 final drive gears front and rear, 12% lower
1.18:1 3rd gear ratio, 4% taller
0.77:1 4th gear ratio, 9% taller

Re: 16" Rims/Tires:

These rims are a better match for the BFG's than the ones I had on there. The extra inch of ground clearance will definitely be helpful down here in Arizona!

Very pleased with these over the orig GW 15's that I had on the van.

Re: Transaxle re-gearing

With the new gearing, I can cruise at 70Mph now, right at the sweet spot for the 2.4L engine.

Gas mileage was consistently higher all the way back home by 2-3mpg, and the top end is easily 10-15mph faster than it was with the stock gearing.

I now realize now why I had a hard time keeping up with you guys two years ago (on the way back from Sycro De Mayo in Hollister). Time will tell on this upgrade, but at the moment it's definitely looking like a winner!

90 Syncro Westy

When Tim was here, he, Taylor, and I drove Tim's Syncro up to the top of "Suicides", on hills just east and above Cayucos, California about five miles north of Morro Bay. It is a place we take some of the Syncro owners that come to visit, just to show them what these things can do. Anyway, we ate some carnitas and chele reneno burritos we picked up at Taco De Mexico on Main Street in Morro bay, and drank New Castle beer. Tim snapped the photo below and sent it along.  Good times...
