Add this state-of-the-art thermostatically-controlled automatic transmission oil cooler to your 1997-2003 Eurovan*, and stop worrying about the expensive, prone-to-failure factory oil cooler. *This kit will work with early model (1993-96) EuroVans, but will require some minor modifications to mount the cooler.

Not all transaxle cooler kits are created equal!  Compared to our competition, our kit uses a simpler and more reliable plumbing interface at the transaxle, includes much higher quality hose assemblies, a well thought-out and thorough mounting system for both thermostat and cooler, and detailed instructions. The other guys’ kits are all pretty much the same, leaving you to figure out how to mount the cooler with some generic metal straps, no method provided for dealing with the leftover coolant hoses that were plumbed to the (now eliminated) original cooler, and no step-by-step instructions. Sure, you might save a few bucks, but that savings will quickly evaporate when you factor in the extra time and trouble of installing their product!

Why install an external cooler kit anyway?

• Eliminate a failure-prone part of your Eurovan cooling system: The OE ATF/coolant cooler is replaced with an ATF/air cooler
• No more danger of your ATF and coolant mixing (the OE cooler uses the engine coolant to cool the ATF, when it fails, fluids mix, and the transaxle is ruined)
• No more need for periodic replacements of the OE cooler "just in case"
• Keeps the ATF much cooler than the OE system, thereby extending the life of the transaxle
• Installation instructions included

                Stock     GoWesty EV-AT-COOLER
ATF Temp (F)     Ambient (F)     ATF Temp (F)     Ambient (F)
55 mph on flat     194         79         183         78
65 mph up grade: 1st run     230         81         178         74
65 mph up grade: 2nd run     243         81         189         76

We tested our AT cooler versus the stock AT cooler on a hot day here on the Central Coast of California.  First we drove the van at a steady 55 mph on a flat highway.  Then we drove twice up an average 6% grade for 3 miles (the steepest continuous grade we have in the area).  We measured the transmission fluid temperatures and ambient air temperatures as you can see in the table above.  Ideally you want your transmission fluid temperature to be around 200 F.  Above 225 F the fluid starts to degrade and transmission damage isn't far behind. Unlike the stock inadequate transmission fluid cooler, our cooler keeps the temps right where they need to be.

This kit comes with custom brackets, hoses, and detailed instructions to take the guesswork out of the installation. This installation can be done by a non-professional, but we recommend that this be installed by a professional mechanic — as it can be a bit difficult to access the area where the original cooler is installed—and having the vehicle up on a lift makes this job much easier. Indeed, even a pro will value the thought we have put into the kit, and the instructions we include, saving them time and you money!

This kit utilizes superior crimp-style ear clamps. Regular "worm"-style clamps always have a flat spot, whereas these crimp-style clamps provide even pressure in a perfect circle, and they won't loosen up over time. Installation requires a pair of pincer pliers for the ear clamps.
